Researchers have been able to read brain activity and recreate memories using techniques similar to Mind surf, so called noninvasive "caps" (based on Brain Computer Interface technology) that reads and interprets data directly from the brain.
Before the actual test, the test subject looks at a photograph. Later, when they are connected to the system, they are asked to think hard about the memory of that image. The computer can then recreate the memory on a display. The result is not exact but nevertheless amazing. The computer reads the defacto person's memories / thoughts.
The biggest problem for researchers is that the noninvasive systems gives weak signals, a problem that Eric Söderqvist’s Nanogel would have resolved easily.
